In the latest episode of the Funny Comics Fan Club podcast, Mark Hibbett and John Dredge enthuse about the 26 August 1978 issue of Cheeky Weekly. Both our hosts have fond memories of the title (John used to have it on regular order!), and on returning to it are still impressed by the gag-packed nature of the comic and the lively artwork. There's also some excellent research into the origin of that issue's Tweety and Sylvester strip.
Funny Comics Fan Club is available on all the usual podcast platforms.

The Tweety and Sylvester information is interesting but only insofar as it illustrates the podcasters’ research skills; it doesn’t endear me to their presence in Cheeky Weekly however much I enjoyed them on TV – and I did, a lot. Given their relative lack of mentions I take it your views are much the same if not identical; I already know you don’t favour Bam Splat and Blooie and Cocky Doodle. (BTW, it’s been determined I have spermatoceles, harmless cysts – very relieved).
ReplyDeleteYou're right about my antipathy to Tweety et al as Cheeky Weekly fillers (I was going to say that I have covered the presence of their strips in sufficient detail, but looking back I must agree that my reporting on them was somewhat perfunctory). However, unlike you, I never really warmed to the Warner Brothers cartoons as a kid, I was more a fan of Hanna Barbera's animated output - Huck, Yogi and chums who inhabited a more cosy world than the chaos of Bugs etc.
DeleteGlad to hear your nethers have been pronounced healthy.
